Why Rankings Matter Less in AI Overviews
Ranking first and being cited in an AI Overview are two different selections. Here is what actually decides the second one, and how to measure visibility when position no longer predicts traffic.
Social Media

A social calendar survives a busy month when the content is planned and approved before the month starts, built from a small set of repeatable formats, and produced from templates rather than from scratch. The failure mode is always the same: planning weekly, in the week it is needed.
Weekly planning means every busy week produces a gap. A month of content agreed in advance turns publishing into execution, which survives disruption far better than creative decisions do.
Five or six recurring formats — a service explainer, a question answered, a behind-the-work post, a customer-relevant tip, a promotion — cover most of what a business needs to say.
Formats make production faster and make the account look coherent, because the repetition is deliberate rather than accidental.
Designing each post individually is where the time goes and where visual consistency is lost. A template set with fixed type styles and colour rules makes a post a fill-in exercise, and keeps output recognisable when several people contribute.
In regulated sectors — healthcare, finance, legal — approval is the bottleneck, not design. Schedule clinical or compliance review as a dated step before production, not as something that happens to content after it exists.
Book roughly a fifth of the calendar as unallocated. Something will come up worth posting about, and a fully committed calendar means it either displaces planned work or does not happen.
